Project 1: Nakusp Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade

The Village of Nakusp has high irrigation demands in the summer to irrigate sports fields and parks. This project will filter and disinfect wastewater to a BC Municipal Sewage Regulation (MSR) unrestricted public access standard for re-use as irrigation water. This will replace 400-600 m3 of potable water that is now used for irrigation.

The outlet of the STP will be upgraded with filtration, UV and chlorine treatment facilities to further treat the water. This water will be stored for irrigation and will be pressurized for use in the municipal system.

During the winter, this highly treated water will be discharged deep into Arrow Lake with a new outfall to replace failing infiltration ponds. The lake discharge will be UV treated but not chlorinated.

Delterra was successful in obtaining a grant for 66% of the cost of this project, with the support of mayor and council.
